Locked Down Self Care

There is a huge chance you’re stuck in the house right now, am I right? Me, too! Instead of feeling helpless, I’m trying to take this time to get more things done. But can I just say staying focused is kind of hard?! I have moved my furniture around to make it more like an office space but then the sofa is still three feet away just waiting for me to lay on it and chill.

Self-isolation is harder than I thought it would be and it's only been a few days. And I miss my salon! Outside of using my time for work and creating, I’ve inserted some much needed self-care routines that are sure to make life even better once we break loose from this involuntary isolation. Here's what I'm doing these days:

1.Rest. One of the most important things you can do for yourself to stay productive and effective is maintain healthy sleeping habits. Now, of course that doesn’t mean sleep your days away. It means that I can keep waking up early and still go to bed at a decent hour. And I must say that this current situation has afforded me some much-needed sleep lately. Rest is also essential to our mental health. Adequate rest is just as important as eating and drinking.

2. Workout. Hmmm. I’ll come back to this one, lol! No, but seriously, adopt some at-home exercises that you can stick to even after this is over. I’m committed to doing something light, like walk to bathroom or my bedroom, BOL! Ok ok.. working out is a hard commitment for me. I did a few push-ups and I’m going to work my way up. Honestly, I could use some suggestions on this one!

3. Skincare. This is my absolute favorite because I must be the only makeup artist in the world who hates wearing makeup every day. Especially because I have such great skin. I mean, I’m not trying to cover up this beauty! However, my dry skin is requiring me to wear a moisture mask every other day. If you know me, then you know these are my favorite, from coconut oil to avocado masks! I am glowing honey!! Now is a good time to just go on a pampering spree. Most brands offer kit or travel sizes of their products so you’re not spending too much as you try out new products. Sidebar: My salon, Makeup Craze Beauty, is offering an online Skin Analysis to help you create the perfect skincare regimen.

4. Last, but definitely not least, try some new recipes. I had the pleasure of having to buy more groceries after everything I had in the freezer had to be thrown out. I left it open (don't ask) by mistake and didn’t want to take any chances of eating spoiled food. Ewww! It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time as this gave me a chance to really make a list for grocery shopping and try to eat a bit more healthier. I love salmon and tried a stuffed salmon recipe I found online. I switched up the seasonings and put a spin on it because I wanted to add feta cheese and peppers in mine also! I cooked two regular-size pieces and these were the ingredients I stuffed it with:

*green peppers

*red peppers

*red onions

*feta cheese

*cream cheese

*spinach

I mixed the above ingredients together. Then, I cut the salmon pieces in half, but not completely because you want to be able to fold it over. I cooked them in the oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Just watch it like I did. Make sure you don’t burn it. Lol!

I roasted red potatoes that I cut in half and sautéed some asparagus. Straight deliciousness! I’m so confident and inspired about being a cook. I want to cook again tomorrow. But then again, I have a couple more weeks of being at home so I better tackle my leftovers.

Listen y’all, stay safe and relax. Turn this lockdown into a positive experience. I’ll be here, as always, to offer you some comic relief and cute blog posts to get into.
